The coronavirus has affected our way of life in every aspect. According to the California Department of Public Health, as of two days ago there were 6,536,932 tests conducted in California, 400,769 confirmed cases to date, and 7,755 COVID-19 deaths since the start of the pandemic. Beginning July 13, 2020, ALL counties must close indoor operations in these establishments:
- Dine-in restaurants
- Wineries and tasting rooms
- Movie theaters
- Family entertainment centers (for example: bowling alleys, miniature golf, batting cages and arcades)
- Zoos and museums
These regulations have left and are leaving a lot of people out of work, and putting a lot of us in difficult situations. We have to stick together, and listed below are many different options to get help or provide help to make sure all stay afloat.
I want to help:
1. Join Californians For All
This is one of the ways to help California with COVID-19 relief. By joining this Californias For All you will truly be making a difference and helping save the lives of those affected. By filling out the form, you will be called to safely help your neighbors during this emergency.
2. Support local food banks
Food banks are essential. And during this time, they are a big piece in connecting a good meal to those who are vulnerable to the virus. They are always in need of volunteers, food and fund donations. Find one near you to help out!
3. Donate blood
The need for blood is ongoing, and if you’re an eligible candidate, find a blood bank near you here. Blood is extremely important to ensure the wellbeing of our communities. Blood collection sites have implemented a process that is safe for the donor, staff, and receiver.
4. Support nonprofits
Support and help the nonprofits you love hear about, or are recommended. You could even consider giving to regional grants, who support non profits directly. Philanthropy LA has a list of response funds to help you direct your financial resources directly to the most vulnerable communities.
5. Deliver meals to seniors in need
Older adults are the most at risk for COVID-19. By delivering their meals to them it will help keep them safe and their vulnerability to the virus low. Get in contact with your local, Meals on Wheels, to find out their specific needs, and support them in any unique way you can.
6. Social Isolation and Stress
During this difficult time, this isolation can lead to stress and affect your mental health. We want to make sure you’re taking care of yourself too! Check out our article, 6 Solutions to Relieve Stress, for some helpful tips on how to support your mental health.

1. Financial help
This difficult time, caused a lot of financial hardships that may be difficult to get out of. You may be eligible to receive unemployment, and California ruled out waiting periods for unemployment and disability insurance who lost work because of the virus outbreak.
2. Food and food assistance
If you have lost your only source of income that helps fund the food intake in your home, Calfresh will help! Calfresh helps provide food benefits, and can be used online at Amazon and Walmart. There are also local food banks that will provide a hot meal, Women, Infants, and Children ( WIC) provides healthy foods, and there’s a lot more resources too.
With schools and daycares being closed, finding reliable and safe childcare has become a necessity. MyChildCare.ca.gov provides a very interactive and up to date map that finds reliable and quality child care near you.
